Product shown: ECCOgravel gravel stabiliser - 1200 x 1600 x 30 mm - Black - 1.92m² (3 cm, black). The other heights, finishes and colours of the ECCOgravel range are available as separate products.
No more scattered gravel, ruts and puddles: the ECCOgravel gravel stabiliser holds every stone in its own cell. Its honeycomb structure in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) is bonded over its entire surface to a heat-welded geotextile: the gravel does not sink into the ground, weeds do not come through and rainwater soaks straight into the soil.
Made in Belgium by ECCO Products, ECCOgravel is just as suitable for a garden path as for a yard, a car park or a fire access route.
Key features of ECCOgravel
Drivable, even when turning the wheel
Reinforcements between the cells increase torsional strength: the grid does not deform or break when a car turns or manoeuvres on the spot. Once filled, it supports about 2 430 t/m² (reference value, the actual load capacity depends on the sub-base and the gravel).
Large format, quick installation
Almost 2 m² per panel: fewer pieces to handle and fewer joints than with standard gravel grids. The panels are delivered folded in two and unfold in one movement on site.
100 % permeable, no slope or drainage needed
Water passes through the gravel and the sub-base: no minimum slope, no gully, no puddles. As the surface is flexible and unbound, there is no need to dig the sub-base below frost depth.
Benefits
- Withstands heavy loads and wheels turning
- 100 % permeable: no puddles, less water sent to the drains
- Frost and UV resistant, stays flexible down to -20 °C
- Geotextile bonded over 100 % of the surface: gravel cannot get under the grid
- Weed-suppressing effect thanks to the welded fabric
- No slope, drainage or frost-proof depth required
- PRM certified: accessible by wheelchair, bike and buggy
- 100 % recyclable HDPE (black and grey contain recycled material)
Where can ECCOgravel be used?
- Driveways, yards and car parks
- Patios and roof terraces
- Garden paths and walkways
- Fire access routes
- Riding arenas and paddocks
- Public and commercial areas
On a car park with heavy, fast traffic (over 10 km/h), build the driving lanes in a bound material and keep ECCOgravel for the parking spaces.
Which height and colour should I choose?
- ECCOgravel 30 (3 cm): footpaths, patios, paths. About 65 kg of gravel per m².
- ECCOgravel 40 (4 cm): recommended as soon as vehicles drive on it, as it spreads the load better onto the sub-base. About 80 kg of gravel per m².
Choose a white grid under light gravel, grey or black under dark gravel: it will stay invisible.
How do you install ECCOgravel?
- Excavation: dig out and always remove the topsoil.
- Edging: install the perimeter edging, 2 cm above the level of the grids. Metalflex 45 goes with ECCOgravel 30 and Metalflex 60 with ECCOgravel 40.
- Sub-base (vehicle areas): at least 25 cm of 0/31.5 or 0/40 crushed aggregate (limestone, porphyry or crushed concrete), in layers of 20 cm maximum compacted with a plate compactor. Avoid crushed brick.
- Bedding layer: grit or crushed sand (0/4, 1/3 or 2/4 mm) compacted and levelled: 5 cm with vehicles, up to 15 cm without vehicles.
- Laying the grids: in a staggered pattern, with the geotextile overlapping. Cut with an angle grinder.
- Filling: 8/16 mm gravel with vehicles, 4/8 to 4/16 mm without vehicles. Spread without compacting and leave 1 to 2 cm above the cells. Do not drive on unfilled grids.
- Check: after the first few passes, level and top up if needed.

Frequently asked questions
Is a slope required?
No. Even in heavy downpours, water soaks straight into the gravel and the sub-base: 5 cm of gravel temporarily stores up to 10 litres of water per m², and the sub-base absorbs the rest.
Can the 3 cm grid be used for a driveway?
It is possible, but the sub-base must then be particularly robust. The extra cost of that sub-base often exceeds the saving made on the grid: for a driveway or car park, the 4 cm version remains the best choice.
Can grass be sown in ECCOgravel?
No: the cells are too small and the geotextile acts as a root barrier. For a grassed surface, choose a grass paver such as ECCOdal or Multidal.
