The fixed pedestal has a non-adjustable height, for simple, economical installation at a low height or on an already level substrate. It raises the terrace just enough to drain and ventilate it.

With no height adjustment, the fixed pedestal is the most direct solution for raising slabs slightly on an already level substrate, while keeping drainage and ventilation. Laid without glue or grout, a terrace on pedestals stays removable and drains perfectly: water runs off through the joints, air circulates under the slabs and utility ducts pass beneath the surface.

Which pedestal for a low terrace?

The fixed pedestal, or a low support, is ideal for a ground-level terrace or a slight rise on a level substrate. To fine-tune the level, move up to a low adjustable pedestal.

What is the minimum height of a terrace on pedestals?

It is the minimum height of the chosen pedestal plus the thickness of the slab, typically a few centimeters. Some supports go very low for an almost flush installation. Fixed pedestals are generally 8 to 10 mm.

What are the alternatives for building a terrace without concrete?

Pedestal installation is the main one: porcelain stoneware slabs on pedestals laid on a bed of compacted gravel or on an existing substrate. Other concrete-free options exist (slabs on a bed of gravel or stabilized sand), but pedestals remain the flattest, best-draining and most durable solution.

When should you choose a fixed pedestal rather than an adjustable one?

The fixed pedestal is suitable when the substrate is already level and the height to make up is small and constant. As soon as there is a difference in level to correct, an adjustable pedestal is essential.

Can you raise a fixed pedestal?

Some models accept a shim or an extension to gain a few millimeters, but the margin is limited. For a significant height, it is better to go straight for an adjustable pedestal.
