Slab support plate

The slab support plate sits on the pedestal head to enlarge the bearing surface: it spreads the load, protects porcelain stoneware and makes large formats and edges more reliable.

What is it for?

The slab support plate goes between the pedestal and the slab to spread the load, protect porcelain stoneware and improve stability. Laid without glue or grout, a terrace on pedestals stays removable and drains perfectly: water runs off through the joints, air circulates under the slabs and utility ducts pass beneath the surface.

Frequently asked questions

How do you lay Jouplast pedestals against a wall for a terrace?

At an edge against a wall, use a pedestal fitted with a slab support plate (or an edge support) to support the slab over its full width. The plate enlarges the bearing surface where a whole pedestal does not fit, and eliminates any overhang.

How do you stop a slab from moving at the edge of the terrace?

At the edge, the slab is supported on one side only: add a slab support plate or slab holder and, if needed, a stabilizing spacer or a finishing profile that locks the slab. Full support around the perimeter prevents tipping.

How do I fix my finishing edges?

Finishing profiles are fixed around the perimeter (on the structure/substrate or on the edge pedestals depending on the system) to trim the slab edges and hold the edge slabs. The slab support plate lets you fit the fixing clips before adding the finishing edge.

When is a slab support plate necessary?

It is strongly recommended from the 80x80 format and for thin slabs. It spreads the load over a wider area and significantly reduces the risk of breakage at the support point.

Can it be used against a wall?

Yes, that is actually one of its uses: at the edge of a terrace, it creates stable support where a full pedestal would not fit.
