Self-leveling pedestal for tiled terraces, height-adjustable from 29 to 39 mm. The Jouplast self-leveling paving pedestal is an adjustable pedestal from 29 to 39 mm. It is used to build a terrace in outdoor tiles, porcelain stoneware, concrete slabs or duckboards on sloping or unlevel ground. This paving pedestal makes up to 5% slope over 1 meter and, like the whole Jouplast Essentiel range, adjusts to the nearest millimeter.
Advantages of the Jouplast 29-39 mm paving pedestal
- Quick and easy installation.
- Installation on uneven or irregular ground.
- Compensates for or creates a slope of up to 5% thanks to its pivoting head.
- Installation without fixings or joints.
- 4 break-off spacer tabs, 3 mm thick, for easier installation.
- Manual, millimeter-precise adjustment with the nut.
Tips for installing a tiled terrace on self-leveling pedestals
- Pedestal intended for outdoor pedestrian use.
- Use only on uneven, irregular ground or on an existing concrete slab.
- Always prepare the ground: unprepared ground moves over time. Stabilizing it ensures the longevity of the terrace.
- Allow a fall of 1 cm per linear meter to prevent rainwater from pooling, whatever the substrate.
- Use self-supporting slabs of class T7 or T11 (standard NF EN 1339 or F+).
- Use a slab lifter to make moving and laying the tiles easier.
Steps for installing a paving terrace on self-leveling pedestals
1. Prepare the ground
The self-leveling paving pedestal is ideal for uneven ground. On gravel, it makes installation much easier: ground backfilled with crushed gravel is never perfectly flat, hence the whole point of the self-leveling pedestal. Apart from a concrete slab, simple and quick preparation is enough.
Equipment needed: a string line, stakes, a spirit level, a shovel, a tape measure, a straightedge, geotextile membrane and crushed stone.
Setting up:
- Dig the ground to 15 cm.
- Lay a geotextile membrane to stop weeds growing.
- Fill with a layer of 30/60 or 40/80 draining gravel over 15 cm.
- Compact the whole area.
2. Lay the pedestals and slabs
Installation takes 4 steps. Allow 1 pedestal per corner, i.e. 4 pedestals per slab. For large formats (from 60 x 60 cm), add 1 or 2 pedestals in the center, breaking off the spacer tabs, to reinforce the structure.
- Place the pedestals on the ground according to your layout plan.
- Add an acoustic rubber pad to the pedestal heads to dampen vibrations.
- Lay the slabs against the spacer tabs.
- Turn the gray nut to set the height to the desired level.
Accessories for Jouplast self-leveling paving pedestals

Compatibility with bituminous membranes
All our pedestals are compatible with a tar (bitumen) membrane, but the type of pedestal and the type of membrane (cold-applied tar, torch-on bitumen, etc.) must be taken into account.
✅ Compatible and recommended pedestals:
- Adjustable polypropylene pedestals with a wide, smooth base.
- Models specified as compatible with bituminous or PVC membranes.
- With or without rubber pads / cushioning slabs underneath, to protect the membrane, spread the loads and prevent slipping.
❌ Non-compatible pedestals:
- Pedestals with a metal base and no plastic sole: risk of puncturing over time.
- Pedestals without a wide base or rubber protection: punching of the membrane.
- Pedestals with mechanical fixing (screws, plugs): prohibited, as they would pierce the membrane and void the waterproofing.
🔧 Installation tip: add a protective layer (geotextile membrane or cushioning slab) under each pedestal to avoid any risk of abrasion or localized heating.
Warnings and good practice
- For slabs only: these pedestals do not support joists or secondary wooden structures.
- Recommended slab thickness: at least 2 cm for stability and longevity.
- Jointless installation between the slabs, to avoid point stresses and preserve the waterproofing.
Good to know about the whole terrace pedestal range
Our range starts with the 10 mm fixed pedestal, continues with adjustable pedestals from 8/20 mm to 150/260 mm, and self-leveling pedestals from 50/65 mm to 175/285 mm. Always check the maximum height needed for your project, adding 2 cm for the tiles or boards.
